The Ohioana Award for Children's Literature was established in 1990 and is made possible by a bequest from Alice Louise Ridenour Wood. The award of $1,000 is given yearly to an Ohio author of children's literature for a body of work or for a lifetime of contributions to children's literature.

DEADLINE. December 31

CRITERIA

  • The recipient must have been born in Ohio or lived in Ohio for a minimum of five years.

  • The recipient must have established a distinguished publishing record of books for children and young people.

  • Body of work has made, and continues to make, a significant contribution to the literature for young people.

  • Through the recipient's work as a writer, teacher, administrator, and in community service, interest in children's literature has been encouraged and children have become involved with reading.

  • It is desirable for the recipient to be present at Ohioana Day to receive to award.
